I have some fun things to share with you today. I was asked by the fabulous Brooke Stockman to be a guest designer for this week's Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. I think the whole idea of these challenges is genius and I love participating when I can! I was thrilled with this week's pick which just happens to be Mary Poppins. I decided to also work my SFYTT into a fun Mary Poppins creation as well. We were lucky to be able to see Mary and Burt at Disneyland last week. They were in front of the Coca-Cola building and then again dancing in the Celebration Street Parade. Doesn't she look cute?

So...my first creation was made with the "Feed the Birds" scene in mind. You all know how much I love birds, yet that scene always really scared me when I was little. I thought the old lady was super scary and then it was so awful that Mr. Banks wouldn't let Michael use his "two pence" to buy some crumbs for the birds. I decided to embrace my love of birds and face my fears and create a fun project. I used my nestabilites label die to make a window so you could see the bird seed inside.

I really liked all of the colors in the bird seed.
I used a tranparency& stamped the bird image with Cotton White StazOn. I folded the top over, pinked the edges and secured it by punching two holes with my crop-a-dile and added two different ribbons. The tags were computer generated and then I stamped the nest for the bottom. I had a lot of fun with this project.

I decided to incorporate a little "Mary" into my SFYTT card as well. I really wanted to recreate the feel of her fun outfit she wears once they jump into the sidewalk chalk painting. I chose a sentiment that I thought that Mary might say. It is fromPapertrey ink's Mega Mixed Messages. I was so thrilled to see how nicely it fit inside my ribbon label nestabilities die that just arrived from Ellen this week.

Her outfit has roses all over it, so I couldn't resist my favorite image from SU!'s retired "Gentler Times". I think I have done pretty well not using it in a design for a while. I colored it with reinkers, copic and prismacolor markers. All of the edges are sponged with Vintage Photo distress ink. I added a bit of lace, satin and organdy ribbon for a victorian feel. I asked my husband if it looked like a Mary Poppins card and he said No! Ugh!

Lucky in Love

I haven't participated in the monthly Dirty Dozen Alumni Challenge in ages. I was able to combine challenges, so I thought I would play along. I have wanted to make a card for the CinemaSaturdayCreativeChallenge all week and haven't got a chance. This week's movie is "Emma"; one of my all-time favorites. I love everything about it from the clothes, hair, actress/actors, story, so on and so on. I thought the sentiment "Lucky in Love" worked well for this movie also, because although there are many set backs, everyone ends up "Lucky In Love". So....this is my Emma/DDA challenge card. The challenge for the DDA was to use "Luck" and fancy folds. I chose not to fold my card fancy, but instead added an accordian folded flower to my card.

I printed the xoxo and Lucky in Love from my computer. I then stamped around the images using my beloved DesignElements stamp set from TJ Designs. This is one of those "must have/go to" sets that should be on every stampers shelf, especially if you love vintage creations as much as I do. I knew I wanted to keep the card black and cream and then add a pop of color with the ribbon. I used some great paper I picked up at Hobby Lobby a while ago from The Paper Studio. One of the patterns is a Toile pattern which I love and reminded me of the picnic that Emma and her friends attend when she is really mean to Miss Bates! Poor Miss Bates!
In keeping with the "luck" theme, I added a few of my Vintage Playing cards that I picked up a few years ago. You can't see the fabulous Vintage images on them, but I have used them in other designs and they are a delight. I purchased the bird punch from Wal-Mart the other day and thought that a pair of them would be perfect for this design. Of course I added a sugar coating of black chunky glitter. I had fun with this design. I think this one will adorn one of the shelves in my stamp area. Thanks for fluttering by!

Dare to Dream

Last week I was fortunate enough to come across the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog through Brooke. She left a sweet comment on one of my cards and I followed the link back to her fabulous blog and then on to the CinemaSaturdayBlog. I had once stumbled across a blog where someone had created a Cinematic card that referred to a challenge, which intigued me, but I never followed through. Well...as fate would have it, I now know where to participate and now I need to go back through all of the past 15 weeks and make cards! LOL! They have picked some of my all-time favorites.
If you haven't guessed what this week's movie is by now, then you probably haven't ever seen "The Wizard of Oz". I was thrilled to see that it was this week's pick. After church, dinner and the dishes done, I headed down to get started on my creation. I quickly turned "The Wizard of Oz" on and watched it with my daughter while I created. I new right a way that I would use the new "Sweet Slumber" Specialty DSP from SU! This is heavy, textured cardstock that is exactly like My Mind's Eye "Wild Asparagus" paper. Yummy! The gingham print reminded me of Dorothy's dress and the red worked well because of her Ruby Slippers.


I really wanted to add blue ric-rac like Dorothy has on the neck band of her dress, but the blue I had wasn't the right shade, so I went with white. I carefully stitched it down with my sewing machine. The sentiments were created on my computer ( if you would like a copy of my document , email me at kellyrory1@msn.com )and then I printed them out and cut them. I used my oval and scallop oval Nestabilities to create the oval shape.
I used my "One of a Kind" set to stamp out the flowers. I stamped it twice in Riding Hood Red and twice in Baja Breeze onto whisper white cardstock. I punched them out using the Boho Blossoms punch and added them to the oval with dimensionals. The buttons were added to a few of the flower centers using mini glue dots. The red Chunky Essentials glitter in the center of the red flowers was added with liquid glue. Of course it wouldn't be complete without some ribbon, so I tied a simple bow and trimmed the edges and added it to the oval with a glue dot.

While I was printing the focal image on my computer, I decided to create a small "Somewhere over the Rainbow" sentiment not knowing if I would actually work it into the design. I was able to incorporate it in the bottom right corner with a small button on the side. I left all of the buttons "naked" (sorry Jody) because I liked how they looked as the centers of the flowers rather than a "sewn" button.
I do want to apologize for the photography. It is not the lightest and brightest and it really doesn't do the card full justice, but it is snowing outside and the light quality isn't the best.

I had a lot of fun making this card. My daughter came over to my desk and said that it wasn't a "Wizard of Oz" card because Dorothy wasn't on it. I instead read it to her and then she caught on.
She loves the "Wizard of Oz". Last year our Elementary school put on the play and for those of you who have followed my blog for a while might remember me talking about my "poppies". I was in charge of coreographing the dance for the "poppies" to put Dorothy and her gang to sleep. Good times and fun memories. My daughter came to all of the practices with me so she learned most of the songs from the play.
